Among Us, the latest virtual game to blow up in 2020. In the last few months of this year before 2021 Among Us has captivated new users around the world making it one of the biggest games released this year.

Available on mobile devices and PC’s, Among Us consists of up to 10 players while up to 3 of those players can be impostors. Impostors try to outsmart and kill the other regular players to win the game. If they successfully kill a majority of the regular players they win the game. There is also a voting session where players will discuss and vote for who they think the impostors are. If they correctly vote off all of the impostors, the regular players win the game.

Among Us is free to play on mobile devices and only 5 dollars on PC. In addition to the cheap prices, players also like the customization part of the game as you can change different settings and you can even play on 3 different maps.

Among Us was released on June 15, 2018, by a developing company, InnerSloth. Although the game has been out for nearly 2 and a half years, it has just recently become popular in August and September of 2020.

According to sportskeeda, Among Us has millions of downloads and daily users.

“This was alongside having over 60 million daily users, and over 100 million downloads.”

Aiden Gundlach, a junior at A-West, is a casual player who plays on his iPhone. Gundlach enjoys the mysterious elements of the game.

“What I like about Among Us is the mystery of it all. Not knowing who it is and always being nerve-wracking, and when you get killed, the feeling you get when you see who it was who killed you,” Gundlach explains, “I also love the reactions of other people being accused of being ‘sus.’”

Gundlach also gave an idea about how he thinks Among Us suddenly rose to popularity.

“I think it became popular due to the exposure given by streamers and the people that watch the streamers play the game,” Gundlach says.

Many streamers with huge fan bases will help spread the game and give it more exposure.

He also gave another reason he thinks the game is just becoming popular now after being out on the market for many years prior.

Gundlach explains,“ I think it has had an increase in popularity due to so many people having to have more exposure to technology due to COVID.”

Many games such as Fall Guys and Fortnite have fallen victim to losing lots of players over time because of the lack of change, but Gundlach thinks Among Us will be different.

“I believe that as more progression and additions to the game continue to happen, people will continue to play it to explore the changes,” Gundlach states.

Tanner Kourthius is a sophomore at A-West who also plays casually on his iPhone. Kourthius enjoys having the option of being able to play with friends or random people.

“I like the fact that if you want to play with your friends you can create a private lobby and play with them and I also like that if you want to play a couple of quick games you can just join a random lobby and play with random people,” states Kourthius.

With the sudden rise to fame, Among Us is now one of the most popular games in the world and can continue to grow and create changes their players want.
