Margaret Hodson is soon to be graduating from Arvada West high school, sharing, “I’m not really excited to leave the people here but I’m excited to start something new.” Sooner rather than later Hodson will be off to UNC, University of Colorado to pursue a career in acting and film.
For the four years Hodson has been at A-West she’s had both ups and downs, explaining, “I went through a lot of drama like with friends, and I lost a lot of friends but then when doing that I grew as a person and I found myself.”
Almost Everyone goes through challenges, including with friends, but other times when trouble arises there are good moments, with Hodson sharing, “I would say my best experience here would be theater and being able to be on the theatre board because that just gave me a leadership role and I love social media.”
Hodson found a passion for theater as a freshman, when her sister asked her to join her in. Hodson participated in theater for all four years of high school: she did costumes/hair/makeup for the shows Clue, Addams Family, 21 Chump Street, and Dearly Departed, while for acting roles she acted in the following shows: Bright Star, Lost Boy, Oz, Something Rotten, and Sense of Sensibility. Most recently Hodson was one of the Seniors to direct the show called Tracks.
Hodson talks about her favorite show, explaining, “My favorite musical was Something Rotten. I was in the cast for that, and there was lots of dancing, singing, and acting.”
Hodson has greatly enjoyed theater and talks about how everyone in theater is sweet, as well as how she loved being on stage and playing different characters. She sees theater as a great way to express different characters and explore more.
Lindsey Welsh explains that in the beginning of Hodson’s acting career she had one challenge, stating, “She even at the beginning of this year really struggled to be proud of what she was bringing to the table and she tends to second guess herself a lot and so I think that was what I was most proud of her, because she no longer second guesses herself, she’s just into it.”
Hodson’s friend and fellow cast member Rosalia O’Dorisio says, “She is very passionate about theatre,” adding, ‘She spreads her love and passion for theatre to others around her.’
As Hodson’s last days of high-school approach, she makes sure she is still bright and shining. At the same time, her advice for future seniors and others is, “I feel like most people’s advice would be ‘do your schoolwork’ but my advice would be to get a group of people that really care about you and that you can be yourself around, because that makes your senior year so much easier.”
In the end, just as Hodson prepares to leave and have a fresh start, she hopes others can as well.
