Arvada West senior Caleb Gomez is more involved at A-West than most: Gomez is the school’s Student Body Vice President, where he “oversees the changes that could help better our school.”
As vice president, Gomez plays a part in organizing assemblies, running fundraisers, and a plethora of other projects. Gomez states, “I also help write the school news letter, which those go out to families each week.” Specifically, he helps organize the information and send it to Terry Gardner, the school’s community liaison, who then distributes the content to families.
Gomez is also on the varsity football team, sharing “I primarily play running back but I also play defensive end.” Gomez further adds, “I have been playing football for seven years, and I started playing back in 6th grade.” Gomez was a key part of A-West’s run to the quarterfinals in the 5A Colorado State Football Playoffs this year, which ended in defeat to Mountain Vista High School.
After high school, Gomez plans to attend a four year college and study Nursing. He hopes to attend Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado. Looking ahead, Gomez is excited to graduate high school next fall. However, he also will miss the friends that he has grown close to in his high school years.
Reflecting back on freshman year, Gomez states, “I wish I would’ve put myself out there more and not been reserved.” He further explains how he didn’t come completely out of his shell until his junior year, at which point he started to better resemble the person he is today.
Gomez will graduate this spring after an illustrious high school experience, leaving behind a school he has helped shape. Instead of looking back, however, he is excited to continue his journey and see where life takes him, ready to tackle any problems that may face him.
