Attention to anyone that’s interested in a future career in law enforcement: the Arvada Police Department presents the Teen Academy. Designed for high school students, the police academy will teach many skills necessary for a career in law enforcement. 

From June 3rd through 7th, teens in the Arvada area can attend the Teen Academy. Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. and end around 4:00 p.m. There is a registration fee of fifteen dollars and the deadline for the payment is May 20th.

Payment should be taken to City Hall with a signed permission form that one can find on their website: www.arvadapd.org. This academy is open to anyone that wants a career in law enforcement or to just learn more about police work. All classes are taught by Arvada Police personnel and will cover precision driving, taser, K-9 demonstration, crime scene investigation, arrest control tactics and situational decision making scenarios. Students will also have the opportunity to learn about SWAT and building searches. All of the classes are hands-on and interactive.

Michael Sena, a counselor at A-West says, “The police academy is a great way for students to explore careers and they find out whether they like it or if they don’t like it. Both of those are very valuable.”

To qualify students must have completed their freshman year of high school, maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher and register by the deadline May 20th deadline.

Attendance of all five days is a requirement for successful graduation. Each participant will receive a Teen Academy T-shirt, graduation certificate, and reference materials. Scholarships are available and for information, contact Debra Medina at 720-898-6673.
