For this school year’s fall musical, the A-West Theatre Company will put on “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.”
This musical follows the unforgettable journey of middle schoolers competing in a regional spelling bee. Despite their unique lives and personal stories, they share the hilarious and sometimes painful experience of growing up and the mayhem that ensues when you put a spotlight on children on the cusp of adulthood.
Blake Anderson, the student choreographer, shares, “I am most excited to be able to watch something I created from the audience’s perspective. I have only ever performed in A-West shows, so I’m very excited to see it!”
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee was first staged in early 2005 at Second Stage Theatre in New York City. Racheal Sheinkin wrote the book as well as three other shows including Little House on the Prairie, Blood Drive, and Striking 12. Upon release, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee was nominated for six Tony Awards, winning two, including Best Book – A win for Sheinkin.
The film version of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” is currently in production by Disney, but in the meantime the Arvada West version of the musical will run from the six till the eighth of November. Starting this year, tickets can be found on the GoFan app.
