Arvada West High School wrapped up its canned food drive today. And while everyone was encouraged to bring in cans, one person stands out from all of them: Freshman Adelyn McCurdy.
McCurdy has been doing food drives for many years, and she always brings in a lot of food. This year, she brought in well over 100 cans of food. But why does McCurdy collect so many?
“Because I live in a very fortunate area, and there’s a lot of people that don’t have opportunities” McCurdy shares.
McCurdy cares about giving back to the less fortunate in life, and that is the main reason she brings in the amount of cans she does. In her eyes, 100 plus cans is 100 plus people who get to eat.
“It makes me feel good, because I like giving back,” McCurdy adds.
With the Thanksgiving holiday upon the school, the need for donations is especially critical, not only in this food drive but in plenty of similar ones going on around the community. McCurdy urges her peers to participate, emphasizing that every contribution helps.
“Bring cans. Bring what you can,” she encourages. The A-West community has a chance to make a tangible difference, following McCurdy’s example by helping others in daily life and supporting the food drive’s mission to feed many during the holiday season.
